Accelerating sea-level rise threatens tidal wetland ecosystems if accretion processes are unable to keep pace. Prior studies have explored vulnerability to tidal wetlands across the San Francisco Bay delta, however south San Francisco Bay has been understudied in this regard. Buffington is focusing his efforts on the 12,000+ hectares of marshes across Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge.</p><p>See the <a href="https://www.southbayrestoration.org/event/brown-bag-science-modeling-sea-level-rise-vulnerability-tidal-wetlands-south-san-francisco">Event page</a> for more information.</p></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-author field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Author(s)</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/authors/kevin-buffington" hreflang="en">Kevin Buffington</a></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-publication-date field--type-datetime field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Date</div> <div class="field__item"><time datetime="2024-09-10T18:00:00Z" class="datetime">Tue, 09/10/2024 - 11:00am</time> </div> </div> Mon, 16 Sep 2024 16:35:51 +0000 ariela 2498 at https://www.southbayrestoration.org Effects of Wetland Management on Carrying Capacity of Diving Ducks and Shorebirds in a Coastal Estuary https://www.southbayrestoration.org/document/effects-wetland-management-carrying-capacity-diving-ducks-and-shorebirds-coastal-estuary <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">Effects of Wetland Management on Carrying Capacity of Diving Ducks and Shorebirds in a Coastal Estuary</span> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><span>admin</span></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden">Wed, 11/22/2017 - 16:21</span> <div class="field field--name-field-document-category field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Document Category</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item">Scientific Reports</div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-author field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Author(s)</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/authors/l-arriana-brand-0" hreflang="en">L. Despite numerous studies of avian bioenergetics in freshwater systems, less is known of the energetic capacity of estuarine systems. In San Francisco Bay, managed saline ponds converted from former commercial salt evaporation ponds form part of the largest wetland restoration project on the Pacific coast of North America. A daily-ration model was applied to assess carrying capacity for diving ducks and shorebirds during four winter seasons (2007-2010) in seasonal and circulation ponds, each in two salinity classes.</p> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-keywords field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Keywords</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/keywords/waterbirds" hreflang="en">waterbirds</a></div> </div> </div> Thu, 23 Nov 2017 00:21:53 +0000 admin 1610 at https://www.southbayrestoration.org
