Back to School BioBlitz

You can kick off the school year with a family-friendly BioBlitz adventure in Menlo Park! 

Experienced naturalists and docents will lead you through the diverse habitats of Bedwell Bayfront Park and the Refuge's new Flyway Trail as we look for signs of wildlife and document as many species as we can in 2 hours using iNaturalist. Think of it as a real‑life scavenger hunt where the wildlife becomes your cast of characters and every discovery helps build real community‑science data.

This event is great for curious kids, families, and anyone eager for outdoor exploration. Bring your smartphone or camera, comfortable shoes, and your sense of discovery. Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or just learning the difference between a curlew and a cormorant, all are welcome. No experience is needed.

We’ll meet in the Bedwell Bayfront parking lot, adjacent to the bathrooms, before heading out. The trail is flat, compacted dirt with benches along the way, making this an easy, accessible adventure for all ages.
